Artistic Inspiration
For this Mixed Media piece I based my project on the artist Stuart Haygarth. My piece isn't directly the same as the work he creates but it did inspire me to create mine. To start of I found his art to be great was the way he incorporated hue in his artwork. Nearly every of his piece has a variety of color and that is what I wanted for my piece. I wanted my piece to be colorful, pretty, and out there just like Stuart's work. For his work he used found objects and that is what I did with my project as well. I used Mexican candy and foam core, which are items that can be found around the house.
Cultural Inspiration
For this mixed media piece I decided to incorporate my culture to it. A Penacho is an important thing in the Mexican Culture, since it represents a Mexican. It not only symbolizes a person but portrays military as well. This headpiece connects all the way to the Aztecs. The Aztec culture is one of the most important things in the culture of Mexico. This headpiece is worn now a day by an Aztec Dancer. The reason Aztec culture is a big part of my life is because I am myself a penacho is one of the most important things I wear from the whole outfit because it is the biggest thing one wears and is the one that most pops up. The vibrant colors, the large feather, the beads, etc are all the aspects that makes a Penacho.

Meaning behind the Piece
Once we got assigned this project, I decided to incorporate my culture in it somehow. Both my parents are Mexican and I was born and raised in the United States. Both the United States and Mexico make who I am. I believed it was easier to inspire my piece on something Mexican related rather than something American. After going on a list of things that could represent Mexico I came across a Penacho. A penacho consists of colorful designs and big feathers. When people see one in real life they tend to get excited for its beauty. With this piece not only did I want to portray my culture and the beauty of it but positive vibes. I like being a positive person no matter what and this piece represents that. No matter how my piece came out at the end it was deeply meaningful for me because everytime I see a picture of it from now on it will bring me good vibes and a positive mood for its colors and the meaning I created for it.
Penacho - Represents a mexican and military
It is one of the most ancient things that Mexico's history has
Eventhough it was created millions of years ago it is still used with Aztec Dancers
Mexican Candy - The feathers that would usually would be added to the headpiece
I decided to use Mexican candy because the piece I was creating is Mexican, the found object relates to the final piece

Strenghts & Struggles
Strengths : The outcome of it looking like I wanted it to look like and also the candy fitting perfectly in its place.
Struggles : Balancing out the candy for the strips to not fall down because of too much weight.
Great Mixed Media piece overall
