Inspirational Piece
Since the very first moment of being introduced I knew instantly who my inspiration was going to be upon on. I love basing my art within my culture as seen as in every seen of my completed projects. This last project was not going to be an exception. Frida Kahlo is a big influence in my art since she is my favorite painter. I highly enjoy her unique art and reactions of the public when seen the work she made. With this project I already knew the symbolism I wanted to portray and Two Fridas was the ideal painting to reflect my goal.

Meaning behind the piece
Being Mexican American can sound like fun but deep inside truly is not. I was born and raised in the United States but with partially Mexican blood. I love my Mexican culture, for example the band, the Mariachi, the tamales, the traditions, and the life in Mexico. But at the very same time I enjoy rap, hamburgers, thanksgiving, and my life here in the United States. Both cultures consist of amazing things. I can say my Spanish is not perfect nor is my English. They criticize me for loving my country but at the same time I get tell I am too Mexican. My surroundings definitely can confuse me at times. I am stuck within two different worlds because I am not completely Mexican nor American. I am a Mexican American involved in a pretty harsh conflict finding my true identity for the love of my two cultures. With this self-portrait that is what I wanted to portray: That I have two cultures in me but at the end of the day they both unite to make who I am and both have the same heart towards myself.

Reflection
I must admit this was my favorite project of the whole semester but it was also the second hardest to complete. I am not the greatest person in painting realistic figures which made it a bit complicated but fun at the same time. I had my ups and downs with this project since it included a lot of time and effort. I strongly believe I put all the effort and talent I had towards this piece. Knowing that this was the last project of the semester I wanted to make sure it was a "BOOM". I learned plenty of things during my journey with this self-portrait. With this project I learned all the way from making brown to attempting to paint realistic features. I can admit that my skin color could have been more realistic towards my skin tone since I made it too dark. Other than that I feel extremely proud of myself for completing this Self-Portrait on time and making it reflect exactly what I wanted.
Struggles: Making the face look like me
Failures: Making the skin tone like mine
Successes: THE OUTCOME!
