Positive Vibes, Positive Life
Clay with Glace 12.70 cm X 17.78 cm March 2016 Something sacred to the artist is life. With this piece she wanted to portray the definition of life with something that she highly dislikes, effects of smoking. The artist had a bad experience in her family that involved smoking. In a way this piece was also created to make the people aware of the consequences of smoking. Smoking cigarettes lead you to death. |
Inspiration
This piece was not inspired by any particular artist. It was inspired by myself and my ideas and some pictures I found on pinterest. Knowing what I wanted to do for this piece I knew exactly what to research for. I had in mind that I wanted to create something out of clay or wire but in further detail, a pair of lungs. As I was with my research on pieces that had lungs in them, I ran into these two projects. I had in mind that in the part of longs I wanted to create, things were going to be inside. Therefore, I believe these two pieces were very inspirational to my final outcome. |
Meaning Behind the Piece
For this particular piece I wanted to portray that Life is one of the most important and sacred things that I have. Life is everything for me, I learned to appreciate every single moment that goes by. I learned that I cannot take my life for granted. I am the type of person to always have a smile on my face no matter what, this is why I titled my piece "Positive Vibes, Positive Life." When someone lives with good vibes their life will be much happier, something I learned throughout my life existence. I wanted to reflect my project with something I highly dislike, Smoking. I could have done this project flowery and pretty but I decided to create something more dark and deeper. Cigarettes kill someone no matter what, they kill one's lungs. My experience on having a family member that used to be addicted to cigarettes really affected me on my point of view with smoking. I wanted to create something regarding that specific case so I decided that this project was the perfect opportunity.

Reflection
Out of all the projects I have completed so far, I must admit this one was one of my favorites. I love the idea on how it was based of something sacred to us. I believe that once deep things start being involved in one's projects then the project is more meaningful, at least in my sight. This project made me realize what are the actual things that I truly care for in my life. I learned with this project that I can create something and have a completely different meaning than what it is actually portraying. Working with clay for this piece was a bit challenging since I wanted to create a detailed piece. Working with clay for me is not one of the easiest things. I find it difficult to work with when trying to create something with much detail. In my case the struggle was to create a box. I had never built a box or any shape like that, which made it complicated since the process is not simply. I had to be careful while creating it because if I didn't wedge well, the whole thing could collapse. Creating the lungs out of wire were a bit challenging as well. I had never experienced the creation of something made out of wire. I expected it to be more difficult than what I experienced.
Struggles : The creation of the box made out of clay
Successes : The meaning behind the piece
Failures : Creating a pair of lungs from clay (I had to create them out of wire afterwards instead)
