Inspiration
The inspiration towards "Reality" comes from a local artist here in the city of Milwaukee, Kat Rodriguez. I came across this artist in a Downtown gallery night this past spring 2016. With the first glance I knew right away that her art included a vast amount of detail and color. All of the art she was showing that night was colorful and unique. According to Rodriguez her biggest inpiration are her migraines, which is a legit thing that happens to her. That is why I decided to call my piece: reality, since the meaning behind it is pure reality.

Meaning behind the piece
The meaning behind this piece is simple and real. As we see in the second paper, there half of face painted. The face represents the human being. To the right (the inside of the human) dark colors are painted with a sensation of drops. Towards the left the colors utilize change completely since they are bright and colorful. This simply reflects that as much light and happiness are shown there's always someone who does not change. Their inside is too dark to actually seen what's further of them. That is one way to interpret the piece, while the second interpretation includes: as much as a person is sad and depressed in the inside they will never reflect their true feelings. They say that the happiest people are the ones to have the worst life. The outside is colorful and all but what we don't know are the real colors inside.

Experimentation
The specific experimentation towards this art piece was the use of watercolor. I was not quite an expert in the medium, therefore I knew right away this project would help me increase my techniques.
Reflection
When planning this piece at the beginning, I must admit I was a bit scared. I was scared due to the fact that I was going to use watercolor. I had never done a project with the medium of watercolor, therefore I felt pressured. I used watercolor in a few of my summer project works but it's not the same when actually doing a project. On the first brushstroke, I realized that maybe painting with watercolor wasn't as bad I remembered. As I continued with my project, I realized I had done exactly what I wanted, which made me happy. I enjoyed using watercolor, I will definetely be using it more often now.
A struggle I had was making the colors darker, since the water made them lighter. After looking back at my piece, I didn't quite have a failure. The success was the outcome of the fading effect the water created on the piece. |
ACT Questions
1. The relationship between my piece and inspiration is by the medium I used this time. This has been one of the few times I've used watercolor. My inspiration makes her work with just watercolor.
2. The overall point of view of Kat (my inspiration) is that she is trying to reflect her pain that she has due to Migraine. Her art displays the way she treats her pain. 3. The generalizations I came up with is that often watercolor is used when trying to express something dark since the watercolor effect is faded. The effect of it being faded helps the viewer come up with a overrall meaning behind the piece. 4. My central idea from my research learning more about the local artist and how to utilize watercolor. I've never been too much into watercolor but after this project, I might be using it more often. 5. The conclusion I have come across is that painting with watercolor isn't as hard as I thought. After using many different mediums I have increased my skill of painting. |
