Meaning
My recreation of the Milwaukee Flag is fairly simple. As it it shown it includes symbols that everyone recognizes. My point on creating the "perfect" flag was having items that created other things. I achieved my goal in this project.
SYMBOLS
1. Waves - Lake Michigan
Blue - Lake / Brewers
I decided to add somehow the Lake because I believe it is a big part of the city. Even though there are other lakes around the country, Lake Michigan is a big part on the city of Milwaukee for a variety of reasons. The most important one is: Milwaukee is the largest city in the state, therefore it has the largest amount of the Lake in the city. For this project I was aware that blue was going to be a must in the flag since the lake has to do a lot with the city. Also the blue symbolizes the Milwaukee Brewers. Adding one shade of blue wasn't going to do it, that is why I decided to include three type of shades of the color blue.
2. Green - Milwaukee Bucks
The city of Milwaukee has different sport teams. Since I was going to include the Brewers I had to add the Bucks as well. The city of Milwaukee has a variety of sport teams. Sports are important in every city around the world.
3. Circles - The eyes of the Summerfest logo
Curved lines - Mouth of the Summerfest logo
Summerfest is an enormous part of the city. It is the a huge music festival, people all around the state come to it every summer.
Symbolism with the whole flag
We were asked to recreate the Milwaukee flag for a project. I strongly believe that a flag is a large part of a city or country. In the process of planning it came to mind the idea of "The lost M". "The lost M" simply means that while they select a new flag for the city the Milwaukee flag is lingering somewhere. That is why I incorporated the waves the way they are set up (making it seem like the M is floating in the lake). Also the curved lines and the circles make up the Summerfest logo (a hidden symbol).
